If you are still undecided about what to get family members for the holidays, turn your family photographs in to great gifts in a variety of ways.

Everyone has seen mugs and plates with family pictures on them, but do you know if the recipient of your gift actually has one of her own? If not, you can take this simple route of going to your local photo store or even upload your family images online and transfer them on to mugs and t-shirts, plates and mouse pads.

Usually, it takes two to three weeks for delivery though they may have expedited service offers if you're one of the last-minute shoppers.

Beyond Mugs and Mouse Pads

If you have seen these items on every kiosk in the mall and want your gift to stand out, then try something a little different. A picture of your newborn on a tie for dad may be a cute idea or a pack of playing cards with the grandkids on them for the bridge-loving grandma. Not only will she be able to show off her grandkids, but she can play her game at the same time.

For the more upscale presents, you can transfer family portraits on to Afghans and quilts. You can add personalized messages and dates to add a kick to your gift. Or you could opt for a jigsaw puzzle with the family photograph for that someone who has everything.

Practical Family Photo Gift Ideas

Sometimes photo gifts can get a little mushy for the practical people on your gift list. They love you and your kids but would appreciate a real gift they can use too.

For such people, you can give them a serving tray or coasters where they can insert their own family photos. Some high end versions, allow you to change the pictures in these gift items, so if you're bored with the Christmas family pictures when its 80 degrees outside, just slip in a new one of your family photograph at the beach.

Make a family portrait calendar for the New Year for the busy people on your gift list. You can ask other family members to mail you a picture and you can incorporate one for each month of the year. It will be a quickie family tree plus something the recipient will look at very often.

Dig up old outdoor family photographs and surprise your loved ones with ˜Now and Then" kind of family pictures. Your wedding picture along side your parents and grandparents wedding pictures on a throw will be the perfect one for mom.

You could also have your local family portrait photographer assemble a nice photo package that could be used as gifts or keepsakes. If you're happy with your photographer, this relationship could include baby photography, children photography and eventually wedding photography.
