Family Portrait Photographer

With so many family photo studios in malls, grocery stores and upscale private residences, finding a family portrait photographer that will do a great job can be stressful at times.

You already have loads of candid shots at home but you have decided once and for all, that you want a masterpiece or at least something very close to it.

Depending on your budget and time, you can choose the mall studio to have your family portraits ready in about one hour or you can choose from exclusive sittings where you get results in around three weeks.

Choose the Right Package

Once you have decided upon the studio and a family portrait photographer, take a look for coupons on the web or in parenting magazines, you could save enough to add a few special family pictures.

You could also sign up for mailing lists and have coupons delivered to your inbox. Some places charge a sitting fee, others waive that if you become a member while others do not have one to begin with. Some offer sheets as low as $3.99 while others go in to the hundreds.

Before venturing out, decide how many family pictures you want so that you are not easily swayed. For example, you may want one for the mantle, one for each set of grandparents and a few for aunts and uncles and think of the sizes that you want, so that a salesperson does not convince you to spend more than is necessary.

Timing is Key

Do not pick a time for your family portrait when dad is just rushing home from work, the baby is cranky and the kids are hungry. Book in advance so you get the perfect weekend afternoon slot and then take a happy family with you.

Select the Right Clothes

A good family portrait photographer will suggest that you have everybody wear themed clothes such as red and green for the holidays. Or if there is no special occasion and you do not want the family portraits to look like a uniform parade; then wear solid colors that are not too similar, nor too different.

You would not want mom, dad and brother in nice formal, neutral shades of beige and black and then sister capturing the limelight in her hot pink ensemble.

Ask for more than one pose so that you can choose from a few options. Do not be afraid of bringing a prop or two from home or even asking if there is something suitable as far as backgrounds are concerned at the studio.

A knowledgeable and friendly family reunion photographer can offer you great family photo tips to make this process an exciting event. Having your puppy or kitten in the picture may just make your two year old smile and make it the best family portrait ever.
