Newborn Baby Photos

Many people say that all newborns looks alike, red faces, scrunched up eyes, curled up fists and a fuzzy tufts of hair. Pictures of newborn babies make look the similar, but to a parent, they are very unique.

When you first set eyes on your newborn child, you know there's more to her than a little fluffy hair. Without any obvious identification, you can spot her in the nursery where you can hardly wait to capture those first newborn baby photos.

Many people like taking pre-newborn baby pictures during the pregnancy and keep ultrasound photos in their baby book as well. It's no wonder that they want to capture the birth process itself and start shooting newborn baby photos even before the child's arrival.

Some hospitals allow it, some don't, some mothers allow it and some don't especially when they're not looking or feeling their best. An annoying flash may bother an expectant mom and her medical staff so you should consider waiting until after the baby has arrived.

Lighting challenges

Newborn baby photos can be a bit dark as most birthing centers and hospital delivery rooms have dim lighting. This allows the mother a chance to relax and not to startle the baby to soon after it's born.

You should consider not using a flash at all, but try using a tripod for a perfectly steady shot. Simply open your aperture as wide as possible, increase your digital cameras ISO and use the cameras timer for a steady newborn photo.

If you must use your flash, stay clear of the nurses and doctors until they've completed their tasks before you get carried away.

Remember to include the mom in as many pictures as possible. Often, people will get caught up with photos of the newborn, thus neglecting the new mother.

Ask the doctor and the delivery nurses if they wouldn't mind being photographed as well. It'll provide variety in your newborn baby photos and can help by showing your child who delivered her when she's older.

Show your newborn to the world

Some hospitals have internet access whereby you can upload and share your newborn babys' photos instantly with friends and family. Use the photos on birth announcement cards and thank you cards for the medical staff as well as for your own special album.

Once home, you and your baby will have more liberties by taking pictures in any clothing or locations you choose. Take some restful poses, some happy ones and some cranky ones too.

After all, you do want to capture everything about your newborn and by having your digital camera ready at all times, you never know when you'll be participating in a baby photo contest.
